CHEAP TRICK – The Epic Archive Vol. 1 (1975-1979) – (in uscita il 28/04/2017)

Image

If a group’s made up of two genuine rock star types, a Huntz Hall lookalike with a guitar fetish, and a guy who looks like an accountant, which one d’ya think would keep track of its recording archive? Don’t worry, it’s not a “trick” question—it is indeed the bespectacled Bun E. Carlos, the drummer for the original line-up of Cheap Trick, who has not only commented on every song (as faithfully transcribed by Ken Sharp) but provided much of the source material for this collection of rarities from the band’s early days, 18 tracks that reconfirm that the singular blend of classic rock, power pop, and glam—and inspired visual style—wielded by this outfit of Rockford, Illinois places them among the first rank of American rock ‘n’ roll bands. First up are three 1975 demos (of “Come On, Come On,” “Southern Girls,” and “Taxman, Mr. Thief”) they cut at Ardent Studios in 1975 prior to signing a record deal, followed by early, 1976-1977 studio takes (produced by Jack Douglas) of “You’re All Talk” and “I Want You to Want Me,” an outtake, “Lookout,” from their debut record, and an alternate (and nasty) version of “I Dig Go-Go Girls.” On deck are an instrumental version of “Oh Boy” (the B-side to “I Want You to Want Me”) and live versions of “You’re All Talk” and “Goodnight” from a 1977 stand at the Whiskey, and a pair of alternate takes from the Heaven Tonight album, “Stiff Competition” and “Surrender.” Also inside are five rarities from the band’s famed Japanese tours, including the single version of “Ain’t That a Shame,” the promo-only release “Lookout,” and three tracks from the out-of-print Budokan II album, “Stiff Competition,” “How Are You,” and “On Top of the World.” The “no strings” version of “Dream Police” rounds out the collection in fine style. Compiled by producer Tim Smith, remastered by Vic Anesini at Battery Studios in New York, and featuring photos by Robert Alford, The Epic Archive Vol. 1 (1975-1979) takes its place as a key release in the august Cheap Trick discography.

10. Goodnight

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the re-release of the archive collection “Off the Shelf” by Keith Emerson.

Originally issued in 2006 and long deleted, this collection (compiled by Keith Emerson) was a marvellous anthology of various recordings in Emerson’s archives.
Keith Emerson’s work as a virtuoso keyboard player, composer and arranger for The Nice, Emerson Lake & Palmer is legendary. During his extensive career, Keith was never restricted by musical norms or classification. His music revealed the breadth of his musical influences, from classical composers such as Mussorgsky to Charlie Parker, rock & roll to The Band to Frank Zappa. Off the Shelf was Keith Emerson’s means of revealing a collection of recorded works for various projects dating as far back as 1968 with The Nice, some of which were consigned to the archives for a variety of reasons and destined to remain unreleased until Off the Shelf was first issued.

They feature recordings with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Jazz Orchestra and legendary musicians including Levon Helm & Garth Hudson (of The Band), Aynsley Dunbar, Pat Travers, Cozy Powell and more.

This Esoteric Recordings edition sees the welcome appearance once more of a classic collection.

Tracklist
1. Abaddon’s Bolero (With The London Philharmonic Orchestra)
2. Pictures At An Exhibition (Excerpt Of A Solo Studio Recording)
3. And Then January

7. Au Privave (Featuring The London Jazz Orchestra)
8. Walter L (Featuring The London Jazz Orchestra)

10. Asian Pear
11. Motor Bikin’
12. America
13. Lumpy Gravy
14. Up The Elephant & Round The Castle

Insieme al live saranno ristampati anche WHAT’S NEXT, JUGGERNAUT e POWER OF R’N’R.

  • Live
Fully Remastered Audio / Contains 2 Bonus tracks / Includes ‘Dragonfly’, ‘I’m A King Bee and ‘World Anthem / 16 page full-colour booklet, new essay about the making of the album, enhanced artwork and previously unseen photos. The commonly held belief about Frank Marino, leader of Mahogany Rush, is that he was motivated by the dead spirit of Jimi Hendrix. Of course this was a misquote taken from an early interview which persisted throughout his career and, to a degree, still dogs his activities to this very day. Of course it was pure hokum and a myth utilized to successfully advance his presence in the market place. Born and raised in Canada, Frank commenced his musical career as a drummer before moving to guitar and forming Mahogany Rush who issued five well received studio albums prior to this live album. Harnessing a wealth of strong material the band recorded several dates on their 1977 world tour in order to compile a comprehensive selection of choice cuts including Dragonfly , The Answer , I’m A King Bee , Talkin’ ‘Bout A Feelin’ and the impressive World Anthem . Of course Frank’s guitar is the prominent instrument showcasing incredible fluidity and aggression as well as an obvious nod in the style of Jimi Hendrix, but as a power trio the dexterous support of bassist Paul Harwood and drummer Jimmy Ayoub makes the recordings all the more arresting. As an authentic live album, one devoid of studio overdubs, the contents are hugely impressive allowing Frank to showcase endless solos. We’ve added two bonus tracks taken from the bands performance at the 1978 California Jam II festival held in front of an impressive 350,000 fans. Track listing: Introduction; The Answer; Dragonfly; I’m A King Bee; (Excerpt From Back Door Man ); A New Rock & Roll; Johnny B. Goode; Talkin’ ‘Bout A Feelin’; (Excerpt From Who Do Ya Love ); Electric Reflections Of War; The World Anthem; Purple Haze – Bonus Tracks: I’m A King Bee; Johnny B. Goode.

THIN LIZZY – Box Set (verso fine anno?)

Fonte: Ultimate Classic Rock

Best live album ever.
