L’anno prossimo il grande JOE WALSH farà uscire un album solista intitolato ANALOG MAN e previsto per febbraio, festeggerà il 40esimo anniversario degli Eagles e probabilmente rimetterà in piedi la sua JAMES GANG per alcune date e forse per un nuovo album.
Mica male.
Se ne è andato CHUCK RUFF, batterista dell’EDGAR WINTER GROUP di cui ricordiamo soprattutto THEY ONLY COME OUT AT NIGHT del 1973 e SHOCK TREATMENT del 1974.
Un pensiero quindi per lui da parte di tutto il blog.

Le etichette bootleg TARANTURA e EMPRESS VALLEY faranno uscire in questi giorni la registrazione soundboard delle prove fatte agli Shepperton Studios per la reunion del 10 dicembre 2007. I pezzi sono 16, l’elenco lo trovate quei sotto. Devo dirvi che ho già sentito il tutto e benché sia una uscita bootleg col botto, la cosa mi ha lasciato piuttosto freddo. I Led Zeppelin del 2007, con Jason Bonham alla batteria, con i pezzi accordati un tono sotto per aiutare RP, con un Jimmy Page che ancora una volta non proprio all’altezza della sua fama, non mi interessano molto. Detto questo riporto il fatto che diversi fan dei LZ di gran lignaggio hanno salutato l’arrivo di questa registrazione con toni quasi entusiastici. Decidete voi se procurarvi o no questo nuovo bootleg.

Poche settimane fa apparvero in rete 4 pezzi tratti dalle prove che fecero i LZ in preparazione della reunion del 10 dicembre 2007. Si trattava di file mp3 e un po’ perché gli mp3 non fanno per me (sono uno da lossless sempre e comunque) e un po’ perchè le prove dei nostri (o meglio del nostro Dark Lord) non mi parvero memorabil, lasciai passare la cosa sotto silenzio.
Oggi ho avuto notizia che la Empress Valley ha appena pubblicato un nuovo bootleg con questi quattro pezzi. Mi riservo di sentirlo prima di dare un giudizio definitivo, ma intanto ci tenevo a darvene notizia.
PS: Lorenz era da me quando scaricai i brani, ascoltammo insieme ROCK AND ROLL…lui aveva in mano una chitarra e ci accorgemmo subito che la tonalità del pezzo era stata abbassata di un intero tono per permettere a Plant di cantarla. Il mood del pezzo ne risentiva…il tutto pareva greve e con poca dinamica. Quando Page si lanciò nell’assolo, guardai la faccia di Lorenz…pur ostendando una espressione neutra, il suo sguardo e le increspature del suo sorriso furono inequivocabili. Il solito, vecchio, Jimmy Pèz.
PS2: e dire che sembra vogliano pubblicare ufficialmente il video della reunion. Magari mi ricrederò, ma mi sembra una cosa da matti.
Mick Ralphs, chitarra dei MOTT THE HOOPLE e BAD COMPANY, ha messo insieme un gruppo con cui fare qualche data suonando blues in club da qualche centinaio di posti.

Jul 2011 – The Mick RalphsBues Band have announced the first of a slate of dates for 2011.
Pre-sale tickets for the Jazz Cafe gig will be on sale starting on 8 July 2011 at 10 AM GMT. Mick Ralphs fans must use this pre-order link in order to get early access to the best restaurant seats in the venue. After next Thursday, tickets will go on general sale. The club’s capacity is small (350 or so) so be quick!
A blues-rock legend keeping great company
(Jun 2011) Mick Ralphs, a founder of two iconic rock bands and still touring with both, takes time out to explore his blues, soul and funk roots. The Bad Company and Mott The Hoople guitarist is joined by some of the best-known names on the current blues scene to play blues and R’n’B favourites – from B.B. King and Otis Rush to Robert Johnson and Sonny Boy Williamson – alongside fresh interpretations of some of Mick’s own classic songs.
Sam Kelly – drums
Sam Kelly has dominated the UK and European scene for the last 20 years. As well as his own band, Station House, he has featured on sessions with some of the biggest names from around the world – from Dr John and Ben E. King, to Chaka Khan, Eddie Floyd and Desmond Dekker.
Son Maxwell – vocals and harmonica
Critically acclaimed vocalist and harmonica ace Son Maxwell broke onto the international scene with Storm Warning and now fronts his own Unruly Blues outfit. British R’n’B legend Chris Farlowe covered Son’s “The Woman? Or The Blues?”, co-written with Storm Warning, on his recent Hotel Eingang album.
Jim Maving – guitar and vocals
Jim Maving has been playing blues, funk and Americana with his band The Kickback since 1995. His renowned slide guitar brings echoes of Duane Allman and Ry Cooder to complement Mick’s classic British blues sound.
Dicky Baldwin – bass
Dicky Baldwin has been working with Mick Ralphs for ten years and has also provided his solid, grooving bass lines for Albert Lee, Gordon Giltrap and country star George Hamilton 4th.
