La rivista aveva in programma una intervista con JOHNNY WINTER, ma poi all’improvviso a metà luglio il nostro Texas Hurricane se ne è andato, così gli editori hanno virato su un lungo articolo basato su di una chiacchierata con MARY LOU SULLIVAN, la biografa di Winter. Nulla di eclatante ma il tutto è ben fatto e comunque interessante, 13 pagine di lettura molto piacevole. Breve intervista poi a BERNIE MARSDEN chitarrista di seconda fascia che su questo blog amiamo parecchio e la genesi di I’M SO GLAD tra SKIP JAMES e i CREAM. 4 pagine su BRIAN SETZER sempre più calato, purtroppo, nel rockabilly da cowboy e la lista dei 23 GREATEST LIVE ALBUM. Al primo posto il solito LIVE AT THE REGAL di BB KING, poi MUDDY WATERS, HOUND DOG TAYLOR, ALBERT KING e MAGIC SLIM. Al 6° posto IRISH TOUR di RORY GALLAGHER e prima di JOHNNY WINTER AND LIVE e AT FILLMORE EAST degli ALLMAN il live del 1976 dei DR. FEELGOOD. Mah.
Il resto sono pagine dedicate a musicisti che non ascolto perché fautori di un blues comunque canonico, mai nessuno che inserisca un accordo strano, una melodia piacevole, così mi succede quello che provo con la rivista PROG: leggo THE BLUES MAGAZINE e mi accorgo che il blues non mi piace, se per blues intendiamo quello contenuto in quegli articoli.
Nelle recensione anche la deluxe edition di LZ II dove se non altro hanno da dire sul bonus disc. Meno male che qualcuno inizia ad aprir bocca sulle stupidaggini rappresentate dal materiale extra. La BUYER’S GUIDE è dedicata ad ERIC CLAPTON e tra i dischi consigliati non c’è WHEELS OF FIRE dei CREAM, in compenso troviamo FIVE LIVE YARDBIRDS e DELANEY & BONNIE & FRIENDS. Doppio mah.
Il CD allegato come sempre non è interessante, contiene alcun cosine non male, ma il problema è appunto questo: non male.

The magazine had scheduled an interview with JOHNNY WINTER, but then suddenly in mid-July our Texas Hurricane was gone, so the publishers have tacked on a long article based on a chat with MARY LOU SULLIVAN, the biographer of Winter. Nothing striking but the whole thing is well done and interesting anyway, 13 pages of very enjoyable reading (after all, you know, we adore JOHNNY WINTER). Short interview with BERNIE MARSDEN, a second bracket guitarist we love, the genesis of I’M SO GLAD between SKIP JAMES and CREAM, 4 pages on BRIAN SETZER increasingly dropped, unfortunately, in the rockabilly cowboy pantomime and the list of the 23 GREATEST LIVE ALBUMS. In the first place, as usual, LIVE AT THE REGAL BB KING, then MUDDY WATERS , HOUND DOG TAYLOR, ALBERT KING and MAGIC SLIM. At 6th place IRISH TOUR RORY GALLAGHER and before JOHNNY WINTER AND LIVE and ALLMAN BROS’ AT FILLMORE EAST, DR. FEELGOOD’S 1976 live album STUPIDITY. Goodness knows!
The other pages are dedicated to people who I am not listening to because advocates of a blues canon, in their blues music you never find a weird chord, a nice melody, so I’m going on what I feel with the magazine PROG: I read THE BLUES MAGAZINE and I realize that the I do not like blues, at least if the blues is the one contained in those articles.
They review also the deluxe edition of LZ II, where if anything they have to say something true about the bonus disc, at last someone who starts to open his mouth about the stupid things represented by the extra material. The enclosed CD is not interesting as always, it contains little things that are not bad, but the problem is precisely this: not bad.

Ormai acquisto sempre più di rado riviste musicali , in genere si limitano al solito compitino talvolta fatto anche male , molte imprecisioni e banalità di ogni genere .
Certo che consigliare Delaney& Bonnie .. come album di E.C mi pare una stronzata colossale . Il miglior Clapton (CHITARRISTA) è quello dei CREAM non si discute , sopratutto nei dischi live . Significativi anche gli album con BLIND FAITH (ma come chitarrista ha già fatto qualche passo indietro) e DEREK (grande voce) . Il resto sono dischi piacevoli , ma niente d’impressionante rispetto a quello che veniva pubblicato nei ’70s . Clapton is god? NO!

Comprata la rivista e letto con interesse l’articolo sui migliori live albums (mi è sempre piaciuto questo genere di articolo).
Ho quindi ordinato da Amazon No more fish jokes di Walter Trout e devo dire che è veramente notevole! Energia a go-go e chitarre e hammond scatenati; ottimo disco.
