Le prime voci dicono che le deluxe edition di LZ I, LZ II e LZIII saranno pubblicate il 2 giugno 2014. Vediamo un po’. Restate sintonizzati.

John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as Led Zeppelin. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock ‘n’ roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you’ve never heard Led Zeppelin like this before.
With the June 3 release of deluxe editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III, the band will launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order, each remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.
“The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin,” says Page. “It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time”
Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III will each be available June 2 from Atlantic/Swan Song in the following formats:
• Single CD – Remastered album packaged in a gatefold card wallet.
• Deluxe Edition (2CD) – Remastered album, plus a second disc of unreleased companion audio.
• Single LP – Remastered album on 180-gram vinyl, packaged in a sleeve that replicates the LP’s first pressing in exacting detail. (For example, III will feature the original wheel and die cut holes.)
• Deluxe Edition Vinyl – Remastered album and unreleased companion audio on 180-gram vinyl.
• Digital Download – Remastered album and companion audio will both be available.
• Super Deluxe Boxed Set – This collection includes:
o Remastered album on CD in vinyl replica sleeve.
o Companion audio on CD in card wallet.
o Remastered album on 180-gram vinyl in a sleeve replicating first pressing.
o Companion audio on 180-gram vinyl.
o High-def audio download card off all content at 96kHz/24 bit. (Live tracks are 48kHz/24 bit).
o Hard bound, 70+ page book filled with rare and previously unseen photos and memorabilia.
o High quality print of the original album cover, the first 30,000 of which will be individually numbered.
o Led Zeppelin will also include a replica of the band’s original Atlantic press kit.
The Led Zeppelin legend began in January of 1969 with the group’s eponymous debut. From the opening salvo of “Good Times Bad Times,” on through to “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You,” “Communication Breakdown,” and “Dazed And Confused,” the album introduced the band’s unmistakable sound and left an indelible mark on the music landscape. Led Zeppelin has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales over 10 million and was inducted into the Grammy® Hall of Fame in 2004.
The companion audio for Led Zeppelin features a previously unreleased performance recorded on October 10, 1969 at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. The nine-song set features seven tracks from the album, including an epic 15-minute version of “Dazed And Confused,” as well as “Heartbreaker” and “Moby Dick,” which would debut on Led Zeppelin II later that month.
The band wrote and recorded nearly all of Led Zeppelin II while touring relentlessly to support its debut album. Incredibly, the album was released just seven months after Led Zeppelin in October of 1969. Led Zeppelin II features some of the band’s most beloved tracks including “Ramble On” and “Heartbreaker” as well as “Whole Lotta Love,” considered by many to be one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll songs of all time. The album is certified diamond by the RIAA with sales of over 12 million copies.
The Led Zeppelin II companion audio gives fans the first peek into the band’s recording sessions, with alternate mixes of five songs from the album, backing tracks to “Thank You” and “Living Loving Maid (She’s Just A Woman),” and the previously unreleased track “La La.”
Following the whirlwind success of their first two albums and near constant touring, Page and Plant took to the now famous Bron-Yr-Aur cottage in Wales in 1970 to start the early composition of Led Zeppelin III. They later convened with Bonham and Jones for rehearsals before entering London’s Olympic Studios to begin recording in May 1970. Fuelled by classic tracks such as “Immigrant Song” and “Since I’ve Been Loving You,” the album soared to the top of charts worldwide upon its release in October of 1970 and has since been certified 6x platinum.
The nine tracks featured on Led Zeppelin III’s companion audio continue to offer a window into the band’s recording process with seven studio outtakes of songs from the album as well as three previously unheard compositions: “Jennings Farm Blues” (an instrumental forerunner of “Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp”), “Bathroom Sound” (an instrumental version of “Out On The Tiles”), and their take on the blues classics “Keys To The Highway/Trouble In Mind.”
Led Zeppelin continues to be honoured for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Jones, Page and Plant – along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham – took the stage at London’s O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records’ founder. The band was honoured for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In January of 2014, the band won their first ever Grammy award as Celebration Day, which captured their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert, was named Best Rock Album.

Non ti sbagliavi quando mi avevi fatto capire che nei primi box probabilmente avrebbero messo dei live già disponibili su boot ma ripuliti .. e infatti…
Io del live in questione ho anche l’edizione recente della Godfather (e tu quante versioni ne hai ? :-) ) , molto carina anche esteticamente . però manca Train Kept A Rollin’ , che non era stata eseguita , speriamo di trovarla nel secondo box . Ad ogni modo è un bel bonus non c’è che dire !

Per il casual fan certamente, un concerto del genere è un bel bonus, ma per noi ledheads … nulla che già non abbiamo (in più versioni…ne avevo due, ma ho tenuto solo quella della EVSD) per di più da FM. Speriamo almeno che per quanto riguarda la qualità sia un upgrade.
Ipotizzo inizio dicembre per le cose più succulente.
Giovedì sembra ci sarà una conferenza stampa.

Ovviamente hai ragione e non ti nascondo la mia piccola delusione , dato che speravo nella pubblicazione di Train Kept tra i bonus (lo so , sono un rompicoglioni!) .
Un altra cosa che mi lascia un pochino così , è la scelta di ristampare i vinili , non nella loro edizione “originale” che comunque già possiedo , ma in versione deluxe con bonus etc. Vada per i CD , poi si vedrà …

Io che volo molto con la fantasia e sono fermamente convinto che i 3 led zep,
magari tra qualche anno, passeranno all’UNIPOL ARENA di Casalecchio
come i Black sabbath a Giugno 2014, mi aspettavo cose strabilianti per il
primo album, cose dell’altro mondo.che ne so, una registrazione della prima
session che hanno fatto assieme nella piccola stanza che il loro sound
fece esplodere.
Oppure qualche live scandinavo della prima tournée settembrina.
Qualche decennio fa ho fatto sogni erotici del genere.
Ora non li sogno da tempo e se voglio far volare la fantasia mi leggo
qualche libro sulle loro gesta.

Mike, il primo album è stato fatto in 30 ore, il secondo di corsa tra un concerto e l’altro, mi pare logico che non ci sia materiale aggiuntivo da studio degno di nota.. Sì certo qualche outtakes, ma nulla di particolarmente appetibile. Aspettiamoci cose più significative dal IV in poi, o meglio nel periodo 1971/75. Sì perché se ci pensiamo bene anche PRESENCE è stato registrato molto velocemente in studio e il materiale in più di ITTOD è finito su CODA nel 1982.
Questo per quanto riguarda materiale da studio. Eventuale materiale live da abbinare nei bonus disc ce ne sarebbe (parlo di registrazioni non multitraccia), speriamo che sian cose che non sono ancora circolate sotto forma di bootleg, o perlomeno versioni soundboard di materiale finora apparso solo come audience.

Una breve parentesi riguardo a ITTOD . Ieri sera stavo ascoltando proprio quell’album e il successivo CODA (che ultimamente sta tornando a girare sul mio stereo) e ho immaginato per l’ennesima volta la “mia” versione dell’ultimo album dei LZ ancora in vita .
Ho sempre trovato Ozone Baby , Darlene e Wearing And Tearing decisamente più accattivanti e superiori , rispetto a South Bound Saurez , Fool In The Rain e Hot Dog , poi finite su disco . Non riesco a capire le motivazioni che hanno portato Page o la band stessa , a lasciare fuori una gemma come WAT .
L’ipotetico 45 giri commemorativo di Knebworth non può essere una ragione valida , insomma un album come ITTD sarebbe stato una bomba con quei pezzi . Inoltre come album sarebbe stato più bilanciato , perché avrebbe condensato più generi e avrebbe avuto un significativo numero di pezzi belli tosti .

Non male. Mi dispaice per FOOL IN THE RAIN, inusitata per i led e
con un bell’assolo di Jimmy.
Comunque ITTD, per essere l’ultimo album, contiene IN THE EVENING
pezzo notevolissimo e I’M GONNA CRAWL altro pezzo pregevole.
La prima e l’ultima canzone del disco, a mio parere, danno ancora
l’idea della grandezza dei LZ.
Una grandezza ed una maestosita’ nel rock che pochi hanno raggiunto.

Sono d’accordo, Wearting and Tearing è un pezzo travolgente: mi sono esaltato quando Plant l’ha fatta dal vivo con Page a Knebworth nel 1990 (anche se un mio amico mi ha detto che quella volta secondo lui c’erano delle basi registrate … chi lo sa). Poteva essere un esperimento del sound LZ del futuro.

D’accordo con te Mike . Beh , a Fool In The Rain preferisco Darlene (anche se probabilmente sono l’unico a pensarla così) , probabilmente più scontata e forse per questo tenuta fuori dal disco . Ovviamente amo ITTOD , questa “mia” versione è soltanto una sega mentale , che probabilmente ne avrebbe fatto un album più scontato e meno coraggioso .
Il mio parere personale è che si tratta di un buon disco (che poteva essere ottimo) , forse troppo bistrattato dalla stessa band e da una parte del suo pubblico in un certo modo legato al suono di LZ II e poco aperto alle sperimentazioni del gruppo (HOTH su tutti) .
Tornando alle deluxe , spero che la roba extra legata all’ultimo periodo sia roba live ripulita magari Copenaghen ’79 e qualche frammento dal Over Europe ’80 .

Difficile per me rinunciare a FOOL IN THE RAIN, ma la song list di ITTOD di Luca è entusiasmante. Non è il solo a farsi quelle seghe mentali. ITTOD sarebbe stato davvero più bello. Non capisco come possano aver preferito HOT DOG e SOUTH BOUND SAUREZ alle tre canzoni poi apparse su CODA.DARLENE per me è uno dei momenti migliori dei LED ZEPPELIN.
Secondo me nell’album c’era posto per una canzone in più, Ad ogni modo, io cambierei solo il posto a DARLENE rispettoa quella di LUCA.

Con questa scaletta ITTOD avrebbe probabilmente messo KO PRESENCE , e sarebbe stato veramente il disco del RITORNO . Wearing And Tearing avrebbe meritato anche un posto immediato nella scaletta di Copenaghen , Knebworth e Over Europe , altroché Hot Dog . Immaginatevi la reazione del pubblico ad un pezzo come quello !
Vedendo Knebworth ’90 , intravedo il suo potenziale , ma quella esibizione non mi ha mai convinto più di tanto , forse la colpa non è nemmeno tanto dei due EX-ZEPP , piuttosto la band di Robert in particolare il batterista .. pessimo .

No Luca , a mio modesto parere, per superare Presence ci vuole ben altro.
Presence apre le due facciate con 4 canzoni toste.
Achilles poi per me ( ed anche per Page) é il suo picco chitarristico.
La canzone che lo fece fantasticare su un’ orchestra di chitarre per
qualche futura canzone mai realizzata.
E NOBODY dove la mettiamo? Altra pietra pesante. Che adoro.

I Led Zeppelin che piu’ mi piacciono sono quelli hard, pesanti, tosti
come solo loro sono stati capaci di essere.
E Presence é un album pesante.

Mike , PRESENCE è uno degli album dei LZ che preferisco in assoluto , sicuramente ho esagerato , però se siamo obbiettivi anche il settimo LP della band contiene del materiale non eccelso rispetto al passato . Noi lo amiamo alla follia e quindi ci piace tutto , ALS e NFBM sono due pezzi micidiali e il primo in particolare lo reputo uno dei migliori 5 pezzi della band . Intendevo dire che ITTOD sarebbe stato più quadrato con quella scaletta e avrebbe , perché no , saputo tener testa ad un monumento rock come PRESENCE .
Non dimentichiamoci che i LZ non sono stati solo hard rock , poi come ho detto ci sono i fans più attaccati alla formula vincente di LZ/LZII , che piacciono a chiunque , ma ci sono anche i LED ZEPPELIN che sperimentano , che non si guardano indietro e rischiano tutto . Sotto certi aspetti HOUSES OF THE HOLY (parte di PHYSICAL GRAFFITI) e IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR rappresentano appieno questa loro caratteristica , sono due lavori che possono piacere o meno ma sono innovativi , PRESENCE bellissimo quanto si vuole , ma non lo è di certo . Comunque dovendo scegliere tra i due album, PRESENCE tutta la vita ci mancherebbe altro !

Piu’ gli anni passano e piu’ é evidente che alcuni gruppi, pochi, hanno
toccato vette che nessuno si sognera’ piu’ di raggiungere.
Gli Zeppelin possono aver inventato l’hard rock o forse c’era gia’,
ma l’hanno suonato dal 1968 al 1980 come nessun altro.
Se sono affamato di hard rock é perché dal loro scioglimento ho
cercato e aspettato un gruppo che mi desse quello che i L Z mi hanno
dato.
Alcuni gruppi mi hanno dato l’illusione, per brevi periodi, di aver trovato
i prosecutori del loro modo di fare hard rock, ma Van Halen ed altri sono
rimasti lontani dai maestri.
Ora non mi aspetto piu’ niente, mi dispiace solo che Page abbia mollato.
Il mio attaccamento a Presence si rinsalda nel tempo ed é l’album che
riascolto piu’ spesso.
P.S. anche Bonham in quel disco raggiunge livelli inusitati.

A me la scelta di rifare le copertine “in negativo” fa venire in mente l’effetto chiaro – scuro della loro musica: momenti forti alternati a momenti lenti. La quiete dopo la tempesta ma anche la calma che prelude alla battaglia. Comunque la nuova copertina del terzo album, per me, è fantastica.
