ETTA JAMES “Lovin’ Arms” (1974)

19 Ago

From the album COME A LITTLE CLOSER (Chess 1974)

(written by Tom Jans)

If you could see me now
The one who said that she’d rather roam
The one who said she’d rather be alone
If you could only see me now

If I could hold you now
Just for a moment, I could really make you mine
Just for awhile, turn back the hands of time
If I could only hold you now

I’ve been too long in the wind, too long in the rain
Take any comfort that I can
Looking back and hoping for a freedom from my chains
And lie in your loving arms again

If you could hear me now
Singing somewhere through the lonely night
Dreaming of the arms that held me tight
If you could only hear me now

I’ve been too long in the wind, too long in the rain
Take any comfort that I can
Looking back and hoping for a freedom of my chains
And lie in your loving arms again

I can almost feel your loving arms again
I can almost feel your loving arms again

Harlequin came at night
bowing to the ghosts of freedom square
stretching a silver rope
jester of frozen minds

and everyone of us
junkees and ghosts of freedom square
spoke through his waving hands
wept on his brother face
wispered through painted lips
rusty phrases forgotten lines

thinking of arrows lost
shooting them past the pain

and everyone of us
losers and lost and underdogs
just scraps of our younger minds
we danced all around the square
jumped to his see-through horn
screaming shouting forgotten lines

shooting our rage again
like arrows far past the pain

(and when the dogs fast arrived baying across the town
we were there all of us a million harlequins

and the town bloomed alive like a beautiful night fair
and we were thereall of us to be the rite of many …)

31 Gen

P.S.1: S.O.S. (TOO BAD) mi ricorda un sacco i MÖTLEY CRÜE, in meglio.

GET YOU WINGS ad ogni modo è un grande album, LORD OF THE THIGHTS, SPACED, e le meravigliose WOMAN OF THE WORLD e SEASON OF WITHER. Avrei dovuto nascere nel New England qualche anno prima. “
